Attilio Bixio è un fotografo che vive e lavora a Potenza. Il suo lavoro nasce da una tensione silenziosa ma persistente: il desiderio di far parlare i luoghi — anche i più silenziosi, dimenticati o marginali — come testimoni della vita, della memoria e delle tracce che gli esseri umani lasciano sul paesaggio.
La sua passione per la fotografia è iniziata all'età di sette anni, quando ha ricevuto la sua prima macchina fotografica, una "Kodak Instamatic". Formatosi come ingegnere, in seguito riscoprì la fotografia come il modo più naturale per osservare il mondo con intenzione. Questo doppio background modella un linguaggio visivo che è allo stesso tempo intuitivo e strutturato, emotivo ma ancorato a chiarezza e precisione.
Il suo sguardo è rivolto all'essenzialità, attraverso un approccio lento e riflessivo alla creazione dell'immagine. Abbraccia il principio del "meno è meglio", rimuovendo invece che aggiungendo, per rivelare l'essenza di un luogo, evitando la retorica da cartolina e concentrandosi invece sull'autenticità delle storie silenziose che emergono attraverso un'attenta osservazione.
Nei suoi paesaggi, cerca non solo forme, luce e composizione, ma soprattutto le tracce della presenza umana: le storie invisibili che si intrecciano tra muri, vicoli, strade e campagna, tutto ciò che rende un luogo vissuto e plasmato dal tempo e dalle persone.
Il suo approccio alla fotografia è un invito alla contemplazione: fermarsi, osservare e ascoltare ciò che un luogo ha da dire. Crea immagini che mirano non solo alla bellezza, ma anche alla curiosità, alla riflessione e all'empatia verso gli ambienti e le persone che lo abitano.
Ha presentato i suoi lavori in mostre personali a Lodi (Circuito OFF – Festival della Fotografia Etica 2019 e 2025), Trieste (Trieste Photo Days 2017) e Potenza, e le sue opere sono state incluse in mostre collettive a Cracovia, Essex Junction (USA), Milano, Trieste, Firenze, Potenza, Venosa e altre località in Italia.
Ha ricevuto numerosi premi in concorsi internazionali, tra cui: Argento al Budapest International Foto Awards 2019 (categoria "Portfolio"), Bronzo al Tokyo International Foto Awards 2025 (categoria "Editorial: Photo essay"), Bronzo ai Budapest International Foto Awards 2025 (categoria " Editorial: Photo essay "), Bronzo al Moscow International Foto Awards 2019 (categoria "Portfolio") e Terzo Posto nella categoria " Editorial: Photo Essay and Feature Story " agli IPA – International Photography Awards 2017.
Le sue opere sono state inoltre selezionate tra le finaliste ai SIPA – Siena International Photo Awards 2020, Belfast Photo Festival 2019 e Urban Photo Awards 2018 e 2025.

Attilio Bixio is a photographer based in Potenza, in southern Italy. His work stems from a quiet yet persistent tension: the desire to make places speak — even the most silent, forgotten, or marginal — as witnesses of life, memory, and the traces that human beings leave upon the landscape.
His passion for photography began at the age of seven, when he received his first camera, a “Kodak Instamatic” camera Trained as an engineer, he later rediscovered photography as the most natural way to observe the world with intention. This dual background shapes a visual language that is both intuitive and structured, emotional yet anchored in clarity and precision.
His gaze is directed toward essentiality, through a slow and thoughtful approach to image-making. He embraces the principle of “less is more,” removing rather than adding, to reveal the essence of a place, avoiding postcard rhetoric and focusing instead on the authenticity of the silent stories that emerge through careful observation.
In his landscapes, he searches not only for shapes, light, and composition, but above all for the traces of human presence: the invisible stories that weave through walls, alleys, streets, and countryside, everything that makes a place lived and shaped by time and people.
His approach to photography is an invitation to contemplation: to pause, observe, and listen to what a place has to say. He creates images that aim not only for beauty but also for curiosity, reflection, and empathy toward the environments and the people who inhabit them.
He has presented solo exhibitions in Lodi (Circuito OFF – Festival della Fotografia Etica 2019 and 2025), Trieste (Trieste Photo Days 2017), and Potenza, and his work has been included in group exhibitions in Krakow, Essex Junction (USA), Milan, Trieste, Florence, Potenza, Venosa, and other locations in Italy.
He has received several awards in international competitions, including: Silver at the Budapest International Foto Awards 2019 (“Portfolio” category), Bronze at the Tokyo International Foto Awards 2025 (“Editorial: Photo Essay” category), Bronze at the Budapest International Foto Awards 2025 (“Editorial: Photo Essay” category), Bronze at the Moscow International Foto Awards 2019 (“Portfolio” category), and Third Place in the “Editorial: Photo Essay and Feature Story” category at the IPA – International Photography Awards 2017.
His works have also been shortlisted at SIPA – Siena International Photo Awards 2020, Belfast Photo Festival 2019, and Urban Photo Awards 2018 and 2025.
